La Merce is a (Koreanized) Mexican restaurant in Seohyeon. I have been there on several different occasions and have always enjoyed it. It’s definitely not the most authentic, and it can’t hold a candle to Las Margaritas or On the Border. But it’s close and another Mexican alternative if you don’t want the fast food fare Dos Tacos has to offer.
La Merce has a great location right outside of AK Plaza. In fact, with the exception of Agra Taj and Traveler’s, it’s the only place in Seohyeon that I eat at regularly.
The restaurant is spacious and they always have tables free, so no waiting! It’s never dead though. The service is consistently above average. The have “yeogiyo” buttons, which makes ordering and requesting things easier.
I always order the combo appetizer: a hefty serving of cheese and bacon smothered potato skins, mozzarella sticks, and chicken quesadillas with salsa and “sour cream” (plain yogurt) on the side for ₩14,500. Delish!
The rest of the food however… Can be not so good. Most recently I went last week with Jen and Katie. They both ordered tacos and seemed not so happy with what appeared on their plates. The tacos did appear to be a bit piled high with cabbage. So yes, some of the food isn’t the best. And their margaritas are a bit frothy. Strange…
Why not try it out for yourself?? I highly recommend the combo appetizer. 🙂
Directions: Take exit 5 from Seohyeon station. You will see Caffe Pascucci on your left. Turn down the alley directly after Caffe Pascucci. The entrance to La Merce is on the left. Head down the stairs as it’s in the basement.
